Climate declaration for new buildings

Updated:

The government plans to introduce regulation when constructing new buildings. This means that developers must report the impact on the climate of a new building. There are already several private initiatives to promote sustainable construction through different certification schemes.

The new Act on Climate Declarations for new buildings is proposed to apply as of 1 January 2022. The purpose is to reduce the climate impact from the construction stage. This means that the climate declaration regulation will apply to new buildings that require building permits. This will apply to those who apply for a building permit after 1 January 2022.  Here you get information about upcoming regulation so you can prepare in advance. The information is based on the Government's proposal for a law and ordinance on climate declarations for buildings and the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's proposal for provision. No rules have yet been decided.
