Planning and Urban Development
Planning and Urban Development matters are dealing with sustainable land use and regional development, town and country planning as well as development within the housing sector. Our agency also makes evaluations and impact assessments of policy initiatives on national and regional levels – e.g. assessment of the national environmental quality objective “A Good Built Environment”. Annually a report is published on the current housing market conditions and three times a year prognoses are given on new dwellings.
We supervise how the planning legislation is handled by the municipal authorities and the county administrative boards. Focus is put on planning from legislative, procedural and qualitative perspectives. Based on this work, we develop methods and policy guidance for planning and urban design. We support the development of sustainable regions, towns and communities. The municipal comprehensive plans are important instruments when heading towards a sustainable management of land and water resources. The spatial development in growing regions as well as the municipal planning should adapt to a long term perspective on traffic and transportation infrastructure, urban development and social aspects.
